Many people find themselves caring for someone else without any warning or preparation. Perhaps your husband/wife has had the diagnosis of a condition that you’ve suspected for some time, or it may have come out of the blue. Perhaps someone else in the family has been ill and now needs extra support to stay at home. Adjusting to this new arrangement takes time for everyone involved.

Taking on a caring role can lead to feelings of isolation, frustration and depression and can result in ill health, both physical and mental. Many carers find themselves giving up work to care for someone, which impacts on income, employment prospects and pension rights in future. Others attempt to balance work with caring responsibilities.

Carers Northumberland can help with information and support for you in your role as a carer.

They also run regular support groups around our area as well which can be found on their events page on the website below.
